What furnace cleaning is, and who it is for
Your furnace is the heart of the whole air system. It pulls household air back through the return, drives it across the blower and out to every room, and through a GTA winter it does that for months with barely a break. All the dust, pet hair and debris in the house passes through it, and a lot of that settles in the blower compartment and around the burners.
Furnace cleaning is the part of the job that clears that buildup out. What we actually clean
When people search for furnace cleaning they usually mean cleaning the parts of the furnace that collect dust and choke airflow. That is exactly what we do. On a standard visit we clean:
- The blower compartment and the blower wheel itself, where a thick coat of dust builds up on the fan blades and quietly cuts your airflow
- The area around the heat exchanger, so dust is not baking onto a hot surface every time the furnace fires
- The burner area and the base of the cabinet, where debris and rust flakes gather over the years
- The return-air drop and the plenum, the first stretch of ductwork right at the furnace

Furnace and air duct cleaning go together
This is the question we get most, so here it is plainly. Air duct cleaning is the ductwork, the supply and return runs that carry air to and from every vent. Furnace cleaning is the furnace itself, the blower, the compartment and the area around the burners and heat exchanger.
They are two parts of one air system, and doing one without the other is half a job. Clean spotless ducts but leave a dust-caked blower wheel spinning at the centre of them, and that dust goes straight back into the fresh ducts the next time the furnace runs. Clean the furnace but leave the ducts full, and the clean blower just pushes old duct dust around the house. That is why we almost always do both in the same visit, and why our packages are built around the pair as one job. Clean it before the winter heating season
The best time to clean a furnace is late summer or fall, before you switch it on for the winter. GTA furnaces run hard from roughly November through March, and plenty of homes never shut the fan off in between. Going into that stretch with a clean blower and a clear return means better airflow and less strain from day one, instead of pushing five or six months of buildup around the house before you get to it.
If you miss the fall window, do not wait a full year. A mid-winter cleaning still helps, and early spring is a solid second-best, right after the system has done its hardest work and before pollen season pulls more debris in.
Cleaning, not HVAC repair or certification
We want to be straight about this. Comfort Clean cleans. We are not a heating contractor, we do not repair or replace furnace parts, and we do not do gas work or safety certifications. If we open the blower and see a cracked part, a heavy oil leak or something that looks unsafe, we point it out and photograph it so you can call your HVAC company, but we will not pretend to fix it. A cleaning and a licensed technician’s safety tune-up work well side by side, one does not replace the other.
One note on wording: in Alberta and a few other places “furnace cleaning” often means a furnace inspection and mechanical service. Here in the GTA the service people are searching for, and the one we provide, is furnace and duct cleaning. If it is a mechanical inspection or gas certification you need, that is a licensed HVAC technician’s job.
